David Spiegel Product and growth leader. Designer and hands-on builder. San Francisco, California | https://heyspiegel.com | david@heyspiegel.com About David Spiegel is a product and growth leader who combines commercial judgment, product design, and hands-on software building. He has been a startup's first product hire, led improvements to revenue-critical advertising systems, and designed and built products of his own. His experience spans direct-to-consumer telehealth, programmatic advertising, publisher monetization, e-commerce, and B2B and consumer software. His work connects how people use a product with how the business succeeds. At 5 Axis Health, that meant taking responsibility for the patient journey and improving pricing, conversion, and fulfillment. At Sharethrough and Content IQ, it meant understanding how technical systems and product decisions affected advertising revenue. His record includes a 76% increase in average order value at 5 Axis, $1.8 million in added annual revenue at Sharethrough, and substantial gains in revenue per session at Content IQ. He also designs and ships software himself using AI coding agents. Hitchhike lets AI assistants hand work to one another across apps and accounts. Obeagle, a video-chat product for dogs and their people, brings together real-time video, product design, and moderation. AdTech Eval Lab applies his advertising-operations experience to evaluating whether AI agents can complete practical business tasks correctly. His background in psychology and decision-making informs his approach to customer behavior. He can work from product direction and research through design, data analysis, and delivery, with experience both leading engineers and implementing ideas himself. Selected work 5 Axis Health Product Manager, then Product Lead | February 2024 to November 2025 Promoted to Product Lead in February 2025 5 Axis is a direct-to-consumer telehealth company serving men's health, women's health, and GLP-1 care. The business bootstrapped to $5 million in monthly recurring revenue. David joined as the first product hire and was promoted to Product Lead a year later. He helped the company grow from 10,000 to more than 50,000 patients while overhauling clinical intake, checkout, pricing and subscriptions, retention, fulfillment, and the patient portal. He managed five engineers and worked across design, marketing, clinical, and operations. Pricing and plan selection were a major area of impact. He tested clearer monthly-price framing, a three-month default, and a six-month option, increasing average order value by 76% and conversion by 30%. He also followed the patient experience beyond checkout. By identifying fulfillment bottlenecks and changing the post-booking workflow with clinical and operations teams, he cut medication delivery from about two weeks to three days. He launched a reviews program that increased the positive Trustpilot review rate from 20% to 92% in four months and grew review volume eightfold. He also reduced design turnaround time by 50-75% by finding and onboarding a new agency partner and improving collaboration. His product decisions accounted for both the commercial and clinical sides of the experience. For example, he designed intake questions to support accurate patient answers without steering people toward qualifying for treatment. Sharethrough Product Manager, Ad Rendering | September 2022 to June 2023 Sharethrough is a global advertising marketplace processing more than 160 billion daily bids. David was its first PM dedicated to ad rendering. He set the roadmap and worked with three engineers on ad formats and the systems displaying them across web and mobile. - Added $1.8 million in annual revenue through improvements to latency, load times, render rates, video start rates, and reliability. - Launched the Countdown ad format with engineering, sales, design, and product marketing. The format delivered 1.9x clickthrough and 2.5x comprehension lifts. - Built an internal ad-quality assurance platform in three weeks, reducing escalations and raising teams' ad-quality confidence from 4/10 to 9/10. - Led the migration to React-based ad templates and worked on event measurement for understanding ad performance. He used Snowflake SQL to investigate performance across devices, advertisers, demand partners, and formats, connecting technical improvements to revenue opportunities. Content IQ Product Manager, Monetization | August 2021 to August 2022 Content IQ was a $150 million-revenue digital media and advertising technology company acquired by Perion. David's remit covered $40 million in annual advertising revenue across more than 20 publisher sites, reaching 43 million monthly visitors and 260 million monthly pageviews. He increased revenue per session by 50% on mobile and 30% on desktop through experiments with page layouts, ad placements, targeting, refresh cadence, and bidding. He also defined functionality for the internal platform used to launch and manage publisher sites and roll out monetization changes. His work combined SQL analysis with product decisions across engineering, data science, ad operations, and media buying. This included understanding how acquisition and monetization affected each other across the publisher portfolio. The engagement focused on analysis and recommendations. Independent products and technical work Hitchhike | AI assistant coordination | Live https://hitchhike.dev Hitchhike lets AI assistants hand work to one another while each stays in its own app and account, within permissions set by the user. Assistants connect over MCP or a private pairing; optional background checks depend on each provider. Obeagle | Consumer product | Live https://obeagle.com Product story: https://heyspiegel.com/blog/building-obeagle Obeagle began as a joke with friends: Omegle, but for dogs. David built the first functional version in less than a day, then developed the idea into a consumer product with its own design, real-time matching, pet verification, and moderation. The project involved decisions about what to build quickly and what to revisit. He initially used a hosted video service to get the product working, then moved normal calls to peer-to-peer WebRTC to make costs more manageable, with fallbacks for difficult connections. He tested moderation approaches against the kinds of camera frames the product would encounter and changed direction when lightweight models could not reliably distinguish normal use from unwanted content. He also worked on the experience when few people are online, added DoggiTV between calls, and considered when accounts should be required. His published account explains the tradeoffs among ease of use, safety, privacy, reliability, and cost. The product is live; the article describes an early product that has not been tested at meaningful scale. Designed and built solo with AI coding agents. Technologies include React, TypeScript, Express, Socket.IO, WebRTC, MediaPipe, and PostHog. AdTech Eval Lab | AI agent evaluations | Open source https://github.com/davidspiegs/adtech-eval-lab Two synthetic evaluations for AI agents working on advertising-operations tasks, built in the Harbor format with 29 deterministic checks. They cover PDF extraction, fuzzy matching, and spreadsheet generation. David translated familiar operational tasks into evaluations with defined inputs, expected outputs, and checks for whether the work was completed correctly. SearchConvoy | Software for small businesses | In development https://www.searchconvoy.ai An answer-engine-optimization product that crawls a business website, prepares AI-readable content, and helps manage crawler access and observe crawler visits. The stack includes Next.js, Supabase, Cloudflare, and the OpenAI API. Pocket Rally | Consumer game | Playable prototype https://pocket-rally-staging.onrender.com A browser tennis game in which a phone acts as the racket. It is a rough, playable prototype and an example of David building for curiosity as well as utility. Where this experience fits David's background is relevant to product leadership and first-product-hire roles, growth and monetization teams, and companies improving a complex customer journey. His telehealth work connects the product with operations and service delivery. Sharethrough and Content IQ bring depth in programmatic advertising, business workflows, and internal platforms. His consulting and independent projects add B2B and consumer product analysis, e-commerce, and hands-on AI product development. Working style and background David is curious about different industries and enjoys learning how their customers, business models, and technology work. He listens closely to engineers and designers, values their judgment, and stays involved in the details of implementation. He has loved software since childhood. His first computer was a Compaq Presario 5000 he won in a raffle at age four. After his first app in college failed, he learned product design and how to work with and lead engineers and designers. At NYU, he switched from economics to psychology to spend more time studying decision-making and behavioral economics. He follows developments in large language models and the tools used to build with them. Being able to design and ship more of his own ideas has made that work especially rewarding. He was raised in Miami Beach, lived in New York City for eight years, and moved to San Francisco in 2024.
